Here’s how DataSource did it:
1) First, we procured and inventoried the delivered hardware before setup, and installed and tested everything. This included the deployment of all new infrastructure:
- Physically set up and configure new rack servers
- Rack and connected Sonicwall Firewall for security
- Installed 24 port switch and connected them to existing servers
- Implemented iSCSI networked storage device
- Installed UPS device and additional battery pack
- Physical installation of Wireless Access Points
- Set up secure wireless zones through Sonicwall device
We even set up mobile workstation tablets for doctors to input patient data on the go.
2) We wrote technical notes to create an easy-to-use future reference, and tested and validated every process on the new network.
3) For the last piece of the software puzzle—the critical database server—we created a virtual environment using the Microsoft Hyper V platform with Windows Server 2008 R2. This virtual environment also permitted users to connect securely to the server and access the right information, right from the web browser.
The design DataSource implemented is the basis for future healthcare clinics to which Meditech can now offer its services. It gives the company the option of selling a complete package (both hardware and services), or simply offer electronic medical records as a secure service for hospitals to purchase. We also saved Meditech some valuable funds by designing a robust and efficient system running on just two servers: one for applications, one for files, while virtualizing the database environment. Above all, however, we provided Meditech and its amazing staff the expertise and design foundations to make sure it all works flawlessly.
And any IT system that just works, much like your health, is priceless.
